an entry, kept in fair weather —
Hailey E. Fadler
Writer of epic fantasy, keeper of records both real and imagined.
For as long as I can remember, my eyes have always found their way to the stars. When I wasn’t squinting to see through the cover of clouds, I was listening to and reading stories—of every kind, I think, that I could manage to find: novels and poetry, movies and art, the lives of those around me and the shapes of cultures so unlike my own.
But what really stuck with me were the stories that people have told for centuries: mythology and folklore, the colors they’ve left painted through every culture. I remember being read Aesop’s Fables as a little girl (followed, naturally, by Huckleberry Finn). It didn’t take long after that for me to ask for books on Greek and Egyptian mythology. Inevitably, I found my way toward the threshold of fantasy. Of course, I didn't just step through; I toppled, head-first, into its otherworlds. Don’t worry, I’m safe and happy here. And no, I’m not lost (most of the time), just wandering.
Having wandered for so long in fantasy realms, I’ve decided to record the stories I’ve discovered along the way, crafting them into a world of my own creation—a world I've come to call Azimuth.
Whatever I write, it will be wholly human. My stories will explore characters and cultures through myth and language, told in the older shapes that tales once took: each a thread woven into a tapestry of stars. And, you know, our own constellations carry oft-forgotten lore.
I’ll do my best to record my writing progress, and to post updates whenever there’s something new to share. (Of course, all entries are kept in fair weather.) In the meantime, I’ll continue drinking tea while writing from my home near the Mississippi, wrangling my chaos dogs, and saying hello to the moon every time I see it smiling in the sky.
